Countdown to Fur Free Friday!

That's right everyone, it is officially November and that means we are mere weeks away from Chicago's largest animal rights event of the year, ADL Chicago's annual Fur Free Friday march!!!

So start training your voice, get you pleather winter boots out and get ready to take to the streets. Because the animals need more than just your hearts and minds, they need your voices and your bodies as well. The 50 Million animals who die for fur every single year need you to get out into the streets to fight for their freedom! The billion plus animals killed for leather each year need you to be their voice. So please, for their sake and the sake of animals suffering under human oppression everywhere, get up, get active and fight to make animal liberation a reality!!!

All signs, literature, bullhorns and banners will be provided, the only thing we need is activists willing to stand up and demand freedom for the animals.

While this event is about animals killed for clothing, it is important to remember that all animal exploitation is connected. Fur is no more or less wrong than animal experimentation, meat production or any other form of animal exploitation. So please, for the animals sake, don't just boycott animal based clothing, go vegan and boycott the entirety of animal exploitation.

World Week for Animals in Laboratories

April 20th - 26th

Every year, tens of millions of animals suffer and die in laboratories here in the United States. They are subjected to nearly every horror you can imagine. Broken bones, head injuries, electric shocks, caustic chemicals and even chemical and biological weapons.

Every year, during World Week For Animals In Labs, activists around the country take to the streets to demand freedom for these innocent victims. This year will be no different! Get out in the streets for World Week For Animals In Labs (April 20th - 26th) and demand an end to these horrors!

Come out and demand an end to animal experiments at Northwestern University! Brutal experiments on macaque monkeys at Northwestern confine primates to restraint chairs where their heads are bolted in place by steel screws that are implanted into their skulls. All so that electrodes can be forced into their brains through recording cylinders. Come out and demand an end to this brutality and freedom for the animals!

Every single day, 500 animals are killed inside Huntingdon Life Sciences. Over the years HLS has been the target of an international campaign to shut the lab down. A large part of this campaign has been targeting their pillars of support. HLS has been driven off the New York Stock Exchange, the OTCBB and nearly every other trading floor that exists. Currently, HLS is listed on for trading on the NYSE Arca board. Join us as we demand that these animal murderers be delisted and show the ARCA exactly what comes with supporting HLS! Chicago Fur Mart Loses Space!

As it stands, we have called off our protests against the Chicago Fur Mart. Why you might ask? Because as it stands, The Chicago Fur Mart doesn't have a location to protest! Thats right, they have lost their space at 700 N. Michigan and all the corpses of animals that they sell are currently in storage. They claim they will be reopening in a new location in August or so.

So we will be on the lookout and rest assured, if they pop back up, we will be there to stand up for the 50,000,000 animals whose deaths the CFM profit from. Until all are free,

The 12 Days of Liberation

Thats right everyone, the 12 days of x-mas are getting a new twist and from the 13th through the 24th, we are planning 12 days of action to get active for the animals. Be it from your computer, in your daily life, or in the streets, use the next 12 days to fight for the animals who certainly don't get to enjoy any holiday cheer this winter.

Fur Free Friday is Just Around the Corner!

Chicago's largest animal rights protest and the kick off of the anti-fur season is only a few weeks away!

Each year, tens of millions of animals on fur farms around the world face a grim reality. After a lifetime of captivity, these animals have nothing to look forward to but death. Be it by anal electrocution, gassing, clubbing or any other barbaric method used, the end result for every animal raised for fur is the same. All for nothing more than an outdated status symbol. All for nothing more then fashion.

But there is hope for every one of these suffering individuals on fur farms or any other place where animals are oppressed. That hope is every one of us! Don't sit by and watch as these animals suffer and die. Don't be a bystander to their suffering. Get up, get active and get on the streets to demand freedom for the animals. Start with Fur Free Friday!

Signs, leaflets, bullhorns and everything else you need will be provided (although more signs and bullhorns never hurt!). Just bring some walking shoes, a friend or two, you voice and passion to speak up for those who can't speak for themselves.

Thanks to everyone who attended, spoke, and contributed to the ADL forum last week. Overall, it was a success and we raised a total of $600. If you would like to continue discussing topics from the forum or have other issues to raise, please subscribe to ADL's online forum. The more input the better. The best way to follow-up the forum, though, would be to make it out for an Chicago ADL protest.

SHAC 7 Days of Christmas

There’s nothing like being a prisoner during the holidays. While we’re stocking up on Tofurkeys with all the trimmings, buying and making gifts, and spending time with loved ones, the SHAC 7 are behind bars and unable to participate in any of the festivities we get to enjoy. Let’s let them know that they’re not forgotten!

That SHAC 7 Support Committee invites everyone to participate in a festive SHAC 7 Days of Christmas Celebration. From Monday December 11th through Sunday December 17th, we’ll count down with you the days leading into Christmas week, with daily suggestions of small ways you can help Jake, Darius, Lauren, Josh, Kevin, and Andy feel a little less lonely this holiday season. We’ll post updates and resources on SHAC7.com to keep everyone in the loop, and to keep it FUN!

Fur Free Friday Was a Grand Success!

ADL Chicago would like to thank everyone who came out to this year's Fur Free Friday March. We were 150+ people strong, and our message was definitely heard as we marched the streets of downtown Chicago from Daley Plaza down the Magnificent Mile, letting fur peddlers know that we won't silently stand by while 40 million animals are slaughtered annually, all in the name of greed and vanity. The vibe was positive as activists held signs, chanted, engaged in conversation with passersby, and passed out hundreds of informational leaflets. Also, big thanks to the guys over at Chicago Soy Dairy for hosting the after-party! A grand time was had by all, and much hilarity ensued during the Temptation ice cream eating contest, not to mention $250 was raised for the SHAC 7!!!

ADL Chicago is currently working on an event calendar (check out our upcoming events (NOTE: link to the section here if it is easy) section for the latest news!) for the remainder of the winter season and the new year, which will be filled with opportunities to protest against animal abuse and participate in educational outreach. We hope that the march has invigorated and inspired you to stand up and be the voice that the animals need…because they do need us more than just one day a year!

SHAC 7 Begin Prison Sentence - Write Them!

It's been 9 months since the SHAC 7 were found guilty in New Jersey, and as of today, all 6 individual defendants are in prison. They are serving lengthy sentences for simply speaking out on behalf of animals and need your support. Jake, Darius, Lauren, Kevin, Josh, and Andy all have expressed their deepest thanks to all those who have been supportive since this case began--please keep up the great work and keep fighting for animals!

Please take a few minutes to write them, even if you don't know them. A prisoner's only line to the outside is letters and mail call is the most important time of day. Let's flood Jake, Lauren, Darius, Andy, Josh, and Kevin with letters of support to make the next few years go by as quickly as possible. For their addresses, see our Prisoner Support section.
